Jimmy Kimmel Twerking Hoax (old post)

After seeing the youtube clip of the Jimmy Kimmel episode, I was quite impressed at how the video garnered such attention without any support from Jimmy or being intentionally exposed to any large following. Jimmy was able to pull off what I doubt youtube celebrities, who know the ins and outs of the system could do. After thinking back to 2013, it seems that Jimmy had given considerable thought to the content of the video. Making innocently sexualized content was a common ploy to get your video on recommended, and attract clicks from Youtube’s young user base. If I remember correctly, boobs were a common sight in 2013 thumbnails. Combine that with the youtube genre of fails which was so popular at the time and you have yourself the recipe to a viral video. I think that Jimmy created this video as a social experiment, and to see how he could use internet trends to manipulate the system into putting his video onto users recommended list. I don’t think that Jimmy was trying to reveal anything about Youtube that it's well to do creators and observant users didn’t already know. This video is incredibly harmless and shouldn’t be bashed for its minorly sexual content.

Ali Mosslmani, an Aussie teen is attempting to sue three news outlets for defaming him. At first glance this seems like a serious allegation; you might even feel bad for Ali until you hear how he was allegedly defamed. As the story goes, Ali was at the birthday party of a friend when a rather fateful picture was taken This picture, showing Ali on the left, soon when viral. It seemed as if social media users could not get enough of Ali's hilarious mullet. Ali then became the subject of a series of  internet memes that had photo-shopped the picture into creative jokes, all along the theme of making fun of Ali's haircut. These memes did not rest well with Ali however, especially after The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail Australia, and KIIS radio poked fun of his haircut as well. IKEA Place: A Genius Campaign (old post)

IKEA made great use of new and popular technologies with their app, IKEA Place. IKEA Place was launched in 2017, so unfortunately its nothing new. However, I'm sure that the idea is still just as cool. IKEA Place makes use of AR technology to let users see how specific IKEA products would fit and look in their own apartments and homes. Pretty neat eh? If you don't know, AR(augmented reality) is similar to VR(virtual reality), but still somewhat different. VR creates an entirely new digital environment around you, whereas AR creates digital objects mapped to your physical environment. Because AR requires far less processing power than VR, mobile devices are very capable of helping you experience it.
